The 10-day grace for visa-on-arrival is reported by immigration practitioners but not stated on current official pages — treat it as indicative.

How overstay fines work (2026)

  • One rate for everyone: AED 50/day, unified on 5 August 2023. Before that, residents paid AED 25/day and visitors AED 100/day — many older articles still show those numbers.
  • Tourist and visit visas arranged in advance have no grace period — fines start the day after expiry (the old 10-day grace was scrapped in 2023).
  • Residence visas keep flexible grace periods — 30, 60, 90 or 180 days after expiry/cancellation depending on your category.
  • Overstayed more than 30 days? You'll also need an exit permit (out pass) on departure — typically AED 200–350 depending on emirate and channel.
  • Children pay the same rate. There is no discounted fine for minors; the sponsor is liable.
  • No amnesty is active as of August 2026. The 2024 amnesty ended on 31 December 2024, and the special 30-day window for travellers affected by 2026 airspace disruptions closed on 9 July 2026.

Is there still a 10-day grace period for tourist visas?

Not for visas arranged in advance — that grace was scrapped in mid-2023 and fines now start immediately after expiry. Practitioners report a 10-day grace still applies to visas issued on arrival, but current official pages don't state it explicitly, so don't cut it fine.

What is the grace period after residence visa cancellation?

30 days as standard, 60 for those sponsored by a guarantor or host, 90 for skilled professionals (MOHRE categories 1–3) and property owners, and 180 for Golden/Green/Blue visa holders, widowed or divorced residents, students and relatives of UAE citizens. Your cancellation paper states your exact period.

Do children pay overstay fines?

Yes — the same AED 50/day, payable by the parent or sponsor. Newborns get 120 days from birth to obtain residency before fines apply.

Where do I check and pay my fine officially?

For visas issued in Dubai: GDRFA's Fines Inquiry (website, app or Amer centres). For all other emirates: ICP Smart Services. You can also pay at the airport on departure, but that risks missed flights if the amount surprises you.

Is there an overstay amnesty in 2026?

No general amnesty is active as of August 2026. The last nationwide amnesty ran September–December 2024. A special fine waiver for people stranded by regional airspace closures ended on 9 July 2026.

Can an overstay lead to a ban?

Fines are the standard consequence, but long overstays resolved through deportation rather than voluntary exit can result in entry bans. Leaving voluntarily and settling fines keeps your record cleaner.
